At the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) held in November 2022, countries around the world reaffirmed their commitment to "limit the increase in the global average temperature to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels." We must achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Japan Groundwater Development (JGD) has successfully implemented a groundwater heat energy utilization system that uses the 15°C thermal energy of groundwater for a non-water-spraying snow melting system, contributing to the realization of carbon neutrality by 2050. In 2021, through the development of high-efficiency groundwater thermal storage, we completed a 100% net-zero energy building (ZEB), which was previously considered difficult to achieve in snowy cold regions. Achieving the "1.5°C promise" is not easy, but there is no doubt that the 15°C thermal energy available to us is one of the key elements in fulfilling this promise.
