This is a kit for extracting and purifying viral RNA from body fluids such as sputum, nasopharyngeal swabs, saliva, and serum using a spin column. It utilizes the principle of RNA adsorption to silica in the presence of chaotropic ions, without the use of toxic organic solvents like phenol or chloroform. The extraction solution, optimized for viral lysis and the degradation of contaminating proteins, along with Proteinase K, allows for the easy acquisition of high-purity RNA in about 30 minutes.
