Operating Principle of Shaft Seal for HB Screw Conveyor The HB series was developed as a seal to replace conventional gland packing, with housings available in both robust metal and lightweight, cost-effective nylon. Inside the housing, there is a stainless steel sliding surface that serves as a stator, and inside it, an elastomer is combined that firmly grips the rotating sliding rotor and shaft to maintain sealing performance. When this rotor part rotates in sync with the shaft, it forms a contact surface with the stainless steel stator, preventing the leakage of internal powders or liquids. The hollow section formed inside the HB seal is filled with low-pressure air or nitrogen gas, which presses against the sealing surface to enhance tightness. At the same time, by monitoring an external differential pressure gauge, it provides a mechanism for anyone to easily check whether the installation has been done accurately and whether any leaks have begun from the sealing surface. The HB series maintains precise parallelism and flatness through strict production management during manufacturing, designed to minimize unnecessary consumption of purge gas and the occurrence of contamination.

The HB series is an ideal seal for the shaft sealing system of screw conveyors, but it is also widely used in various industrial fields that require the handling of large quantities of powders, such as small blenders and bucket conveyors. It can accommodate horizontal, inclined, or vertical installation methods; however, since the housing is not of the split-type, it is necessary to remove the motor end for insertion.

If there is no air supply source for air purging or in applications where air supply is not suitable (such as products with high abrasiveness or where moisture contamination due to air purging condensation is not acceptable), we recommend HC shaft seals that do not require air purging. These use the same main housing as the HB seals, and by tightening the clamp inside the side plug with a screwdriver, the contact pressure adjustment between the rotor and stator can be easily performed.
