[Automatic Titration Device Technical Data] ASTM D8192 Automatic Measurement of Water Hardness
Technical document explaining the automatic measurement of water hardness using an automatic titration device compliant with the new standard (ASTM D8192).
Generally, the measurement of hardness, which is the total amount of magnesium and calcium contained in water, is performed through visual manual titration (such as ASTM D1126, ASTM D511, EPA 130.2, EPA 215.5, APHA 130.2, APHA 2000, etc.), a method prone to human error and lacking reproducibility and reliability in the measurement results. The new standard (ASTM D8192) allows for the objective measurement of water hardness using an automatic titration device, eliminating the need for visual endpoint determination.

basic information
Calcium and magnesium that naturally exist in water are the main causes of clogging in equipment tubes and piping, and can sometimes lead to equipment failure or decreased process efficiency. For these reasons, it is necessary to frequently measure water hardness (calcium and magnesium) to ensure that an adequate amount of nutrients is present, while also avoiding pipeline issues and process or equipment shutdowns.
