The Consumer Affairs Agency and the National Consumer Affairs Center have published investigation results and warnings regarding commercially available hypochlorous acid water on their websites. You can use hypochlorous acid water with the JSA compliant certification mark (clearly stated as JSA-S1012) with confidence. Regarding the reliability of the certification mark, it seems that several private organizations issue certification marks for hypochlorous acid water. However, the only standard issued with government involvement is the standard "JSA-S1012:2022 Hypochlorous Acid Molecular Aqueous Solution," issued by the Japan Standards Association (JSA), an external organization of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, in March 2022, which establishes strict standards with quantified criteria. The HCIA (Hypochlorous Acid Industry Association) is the only organization that conducts JSA standard compliant certification for hypochlorous acid water. HCIA collaborates with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as the developer of the JSA standard, cooperates in the establishment of the standard by the Japan Standards Association (JSA), and issues certification marks only for hypochlorous acid water that meets the standards according to the rules of the standard.

The Japan Hypochlorous Acid Chemical Industry Association, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will create the "JSA Standard" to certify the safety of hypochlorous acid water products in Japan.
