[Metal Materials Brittle Fracture Cases] Investigation of Fracture Causes in Quenched and Tempered Parts
Identify the type of fracture from the fracture morphology remaining on the fracture surface! A case study on investigating the cause of metal component cracking.
Here, we present a case of brittle fracture, which is a type of destruction. Upon further microscopic observation (using an electron microscope) of the fracture surface, features that were not apparent in macroscopic observation (visual inspection) became clear. From the microscopic observation images magnified approximately 1000 times, the fracture surface of the metal component displayed characteristics of cleavage fracture and suspected cleavage fracture. These are characteristic fracture surfaces observed in brittle fractures, allowing us to conclude that this metal component was fractured in a brittle manner. 【Case Summary】 ■ Features that were not apparent in macroscopic observation became clear ■ Shapes of cleavage fracture and suspected cleavage fracture were observed ■ It was determined that the fracture occurred in a brittle manner *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.
