The excitation machine is a device that supplies direct current to the electromagnet used for power generation in synchronous generators. Initially, the supply of direct current was done by a direct current generator, but due to advancements in semiconductor technology, it has recently become mainstream to convert alternating current obtained from an external power source into direct current using a rectifier circuit (thyristor).
