Software memory tests are executed in an OS environment, which means that most of the RAM being tested is already dedicated to background tasks, and the size of the diagnostics is limited to the extra memory not used by the OS or other critical processes. Standalone hardware memory tests attempt to solve this issue by running RAM on an external machine. In these types of RAM stress-specific machines, it is completely impossible to test and validate RAM within the system environment, leading to missed diagnosable faults that only appear when the memory is installed and actively used within the system. RSTv5 incorporates the advantages of both approaches and integrates them into an excellent package, enabling low-level pre-OS testing that requires minimal background resources while fully leveraging the power of the internal system.
