Raman scattering occurs on a very short sub-picosecond (less than one trillionth of a second) time scale, while the decay time of fluorescence is characterized by being very long. By using time-gate technology, it not only distinguishes between fluorescence and Raman signals but also provides temporal information about the Raman signals. Additionally, delayed noise components such as thermal radiation are ignored in Timegate Raman, which means they do not affect measurements. This allows for the analysis of structural changes in materials that undergo polymorphism at high temperatures (500-900°C), such as spodumene, while suppressing the effects of fluorescence.
