Thoughts on the GHG emissions trading of international transport contributing to the logistics SDGs.
Introduction to emissions trading related to the reduction of greenhouse gases in logistics services.
In Japan, it is said that in some industries, such as the automotive sector, there is a demand for decarbonization efforts due to requests from Tier 1 companies. Additionally, it seems that initiatives for decarbonization and information disclosure can sometimes be conditions for bidding. Furthermore, there is an increasing number of logistics services that claim to be carbon neutral. This time, I would like to share some thoughts on the reduction of greenhouse gases (hereafter referred to as "GHG") that are required in such corporate activities, particularly regarding GHG Protocol Scope 3 Category 4 and 9 (transportation, storage, and handling) related to logistics activities involved in trade (international transport) and the trading of emission rights. Here, the term "emission rights" refers to the rights to claim how much GHG emissions have been reduced compared to fossil fuels in international transport, and "emission trading" can be understood as buying and selling those rights with "ownership (property rights)." *For more detailed information, please refer to the related links.
