[Raman Spectrometer Technical Document] Identification of Microplastics in Seawater using Raman Spectroscopy
BW TEK
Application for identifying microplastics in seawater using a micro-Raman spectrometer.
Research institutions need to expand their ability to routinely analyze candidate microplastics from environmental samples. Spectroscopic techniques are suitable for identifying polymers, as they assist in origin identification and help predict biological impacts. Laboratory Raman spectroscopy is a method that enables rapid identification of polymer materials, serving as an alternative to confocal Raman microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) microscopy. However, very small samples are not suitable for conventional Raman analysis. This application note discusses the use of Raman microscopy for the identification of very small microplastic particles.
