Solenoid valve for satellite propulsion systems
IEP Series/ Manufacturer: The Lee Company
Numerous achievements with Small Sat/Cube Sat!! Essential environmental resistance high-speed solenoid valve for propulsion systems.
The IEP Series is an inline high-speed dispense valve that exhibits stable performance under 2-way, normal close, high temperature/high pressure conditions. The welded port made of stainless steel is sized to fit standard 1/16 inch inner diameter ferrule compression fittings. This robust Φ6.4mm axial flow valve can achieve rapid response times and generate droplets with a maximum drive frequency of 500Hz. The high-speed operation of this valve allows for accurate flow measurement and serves as an alternative to some pressure regulators. Its ability to operate at high temperatures enables precise dispensing and sterilization of viscous fluids. Common applications include the application of electrolytes and wax, use in electron microscopes, mass spectrometers, electric propulsion systems for satellites, and cryosurgical devices, among others, in harsh environments and high pressure. Features: ■ Operating pressure: up to 5.52MPaG ■ Operating temperature: up to 135°C ■ Response time: as fast as 500μs ■ Lightweight: 4.7 grams ■ Low internal volume: 62μL ■ Inert seal materials: EPDM, FFKM

The Lee Company's IEP Valve plays a crucial role in the propulsion system of Stellar Exploration, which is mounted on NASA's CAPSTONE CubeSat. NASA's Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment (CAPSTONE) is a 55-pound spacecraft that will be launched in late 2021, taking three months to reach its destination and then orbiting the Moon for an additional six months. The primary objective of CAPSTONE is to test and validate the calculated orbital stability of the Near Rectilinear Halo Orbit (NRHO) around the Moon. This will help mitigate risks for future spacecraft and NASA's planned Gateway lunar outpost, a small space station that will orbit the Moon and provide astronauts access to the lunar surface.

The IEP Valve and relief valve from The Lee Company are used in the propulsion subsystem of "Seeker," a 3U class CubeSat developed by NASA. The propulsion subsystem achieves six degrees of freedom attitude control using cryogenic gaseous nitrogen and twelve 0.1N thrusters within an approximately 1.25U form factor. "Seeker" was developed to demonstrate inspection capabilities for a half-autonomous manned spacecraft for one hour at a very low cost, contributing to the safety of future manned spacecraft operations. It was launched during the Cygnus NG-11 mission. Reference: https://ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/20190000668

Three types of products from The Lee Company are used in the propulsion system of EOI Space, which is deploying 60 small observation satellites into a very low Earth orbit (VLEO) at an altitude of 250 km and providing satellite imagery services with a resolution of 15 cm. 1. Environmentally Resistant High-Speed Solenoid Valve: IEP Series Ideal for applications in Small Sat and CubeSat propulsion, functioning either as a fuel metering device for thrusters or gas supply systems. 2. Multi-Orifice: 43 Series 3. Multi-Orifice: Lee JEVA Helps provide tighter tolerances and accurate flow targets. The multi-orifice design reduces the risk of clogging. Comment from EOI Space CEO: Mr. Christopher The Lee Company is not just a supplier, but a strategic partner.
