Furthermore, if sputtering is performed to collide H ions with the product surface before nitriding to clean nitriding inhibitors, nitriding can be achieved even for steel types that cannot undergo conventional ammonia gas nitriding due to strong passive films like stainless steel. The greatest advantage compared to other nitriding methods is the ability to partially cover the treated items with fixtures and block the glow discharge, allowing for localized prevention of nitriding.
