basic information
**Lecture Overview** The 7th Energy Basic Plan has been presented, outlining policies aimed at 2040-2050. In addition to the CO2 emission reduction target of 46% by 2030, a target of 73% reduction by 2040 has also been set. To achieve this, the proactive introduction of renewable energy and nuclear power, both of which are zero-emission energy sources, is essential. Solar power and wind power are unstable energy sources as they are affected by weather conditions, while nuclear power can currently only operate at rated capacity with existing technology. In power supply, matching demand and supply, or achieving balance, is required. Energy storage technology plays a crucial role in this adjustment capability. This lecture will discuss these technical and institutional challenges and future prospects. Additionally, the fire incidents involving lithium-ion batteries used in mobile devices, which are currently attracting attention, are also an important issue for gaining public understanding. The safety and challenges of lithium-ion batteries will also be addressed. **Lecture Topics** ■ Towards the realization of a carbon-neutral society ■ The role of energy storage systems in power supply ■ Expectations and challenges of energy storage systems ■ Expectations and challenges of lithium-ion batteries ■ Related Q&A ■ Business card and information exchange session
