What is a CO2 sensor? Introducing its mechanism and operating principle! / Leave the design of electrical and electronic circuits, and printed circuit boards to Nippo! /
A CO2 sensor is a device used to measure the concentration of carbon dioxide gas. It helps monitor the amount of CO2 gas released into the external environment and contributes to improving energy efficiency and ensuring indoor comfort. The general operating principles of CO2 sensors are mainly of two types: ◆ Chemical Sensor This method obtains gas concentration by utilizing "redox reactions." The electrical characteristics of the sensor (such as resistance and capacitance) change due to CO2 gas, and the concentration of CO2 gas is calculated from this change. ◆ NDIR: Non-Dispersive Infrared Method This method utilizes the characteristic that "molecules absorb infrared light at specific wavelengths." It measures how much light is absorbed and calculates the CO2 gas concentration based on that information. Currently, "NDIR-type CO2 sensors" are mainstream due to their high sensitivity and stability. Within NDIR-type CO2 sensors, there are different principles, including: - Single light source single wavelength method - Dual light source single wavelength method - Single light source dual wavelength method Nippo offers a wide range of services, from the design of electrical and electronic circuits to the design of printed circuit boards.
