basic information
【Lecture Overview】 In Esashi Town, located in the southern part of Hokkaido's Sea of Japan coast, a seasonal wind known as "Tabakaze" blows strongly during winter, leading to the early implementation of onshore wind power generation projects nationwide. Currently, under the national decarbonization policy, plans are underway to introduce a bottom-fixed offshore wind power generation project in collaboration with three neighboring towns. With a maximum output equivalent to that of one nuclear power plant, ranging from 1 to 1.5 million kilowatts, Esashi Town has established zoning regulations regarding the introduction of renewable energy, progressing while considering the environment and landscape. I will provide a detailed account of my experiences as the mayor of Esashi Town regarding the consensus-building for the introduction of offshore wind power, including behind-the-scenes insights. 【Lecture Topics】 ■ Current status of the Hiyama Offshore Wind Power Project ■ Initiatives of Esashi Town ■ The role of local areas as suppliers of food and energy ■ Related Q&A ■ Business card and information exchange session
