【Lecture Overview】 Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 presents a significant challenge, particularly in reducing CO2 emissions generated from waste management operations. As a current mainstream practice in Japan, the utilization of electricity generated from waste power generation is primarily focused on selling it to widely established power companies. This lecture proposes the electrification of garbage collection vehicles (packer trucks) as a model for self-consumption. With over 30,000 diesel vehicles nationwide, finding ways to reduce CO2 emissions from these vehicles is crucial. One solution developed is a battery-swapping EV packer system. By shortening the swapping time to just under one minute, we have significantly reduced the wasted time required for charging, bringing it to a practical level. The movable batteries can also be utilized as a tool for regional resilience.
