【Lecture Overview】 In our country, efforts to reduce food loss are being promoted as a national movement based on the "Act on Promotion of Food Loss Reduction" (Act No. 19 of 2019, hereinafter referred to as the "Food Loss Reduction Promotion Act"). One of the targets of the "Sustainable Development Goals" (SDGs) is to halve global per capita food waste by 2030. Furthermore, the "Basic Policy on Promotion of Food Loss Reduction" (approved by the Cabinet on March 25, 2025) based on the Food Loss Reduction Promotion Act sets the goal of reducing household food loss by 50% compared to the fiscal year 2000 by 2030 (achieving this target ahead of 2030) and reducing business-related food loss by 60%.
