basic information
**Lecture Overview** Regarding PFOS and PFOA, which are types of PFAS, various scientific discussions have taken place internationally concerning their target values and standards. In Japan, there are voices calling for measures and expressing concerns about their impact, particularly from regions where relatively high concentrations have been detected. The Ministry of the Environment is working to provide responses based on scientific knowledge and to communicate information clearly. Specifically, efforts are being promoted based on four pillars: (1) new emission control into the environment (not producing or releasing), (2) prevention of further contamination expansion (not spreading), (3) prevention of health impacts (not consuming amounts of PFOS, etc., that exceed target values), and (4) risk communication (knowing correctly). This lecture will provide a detailed explanation of the Ministry of the Environment's efforts to date and trends related to PFAS both domestically and internationally. **Lecture Items** ■ Overview of PFAS ■ Detection status of PFOS, etc., in Japan ■ Trends regarding PFAS overseas ■ Recent major initiatives by the Ministry of the Environment ■ Summary ■ Related Q&A ■ Business card and information exchange session
