basic information
【Lecture Overview】 The Ministry of the Environment is advancing environmental restoration projects following the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. A large amount of soil generated from decontamination efforts is being stored in interim storage facilities within Fukushima Prefecture, and to avoid placing any further burden on the people of Fukushima, it is legally mandated that this soil be disposed of outside the prefecture by March 2045. To reclaim Fukushima's hometown and promote its recovery, the destination of this soil is a nationwide issue that must be addressed. To achieve final disposal outside the prefecture, the use of restoration soil that reduces the amount to be disposed of has begun to progress. I will provide a detailed explanation of the policies being implemented by the Ministry of the Environment. 【Lecture Items】 ■ Key points I want to convey, self-introduction ■ Overview of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant ■ Impact of dispersed radioactive materials and responses to it ■ Background of the interim storage facilities and the safety of restoration soil ■ The future of environmental restoration ■ Related Q&A session ■ Business card and information exchange meeting
