High-precision control in water - simultaneous measurement and navigation by multiple robots.

The Academic Space Initiative Switzerland (ARIS), in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, has established a mission: multiple autonomous underwater robots will simultaneously dive into a lake to collect measurement data at depths ranging from 5 to 30 meters. The goal is to visualize water quality in three dimensions. The greatest advantage of a swarm is its simultaneity. Instead of measuring sequentially at individual points, forming a densely synchronized measurement area allows for the detection of anomalies, identification of hotspots, and narrowing down of pollution sources. To achieve this, each robot must constantly and accurately understand the water depth. Why "water depth"? GPS cannot be used underwater. Since underwater robots cannot verify their location as they can on land, pressure becomes the most important indicator for determining position and orientation. In this project, the KELLER Pressure sensor PAA-9LX has been adopted. These sensors are installed within the waterproof housing of the robots and measure the surrounding water pressure. Water depth is calculated in real-time from this pressure data. For more details, please refer to the related links below!

What is high-speed measurement in pressure measurement? Dynamic characteristics of sensors.

Many applications today require not only accurate measurements but also fast measurements. In this context, the dynamic behavior of sensors becomes particularly important in addition to measurement accuracy. While the limiting frequency of electronic circuits, sampling rates, or similar parameters are often recognized as decisive factors, this is actually just one aspect, and it is necessary to consider the entire sensor system. How much speed is required from the sensor? What are the factors that truly affect the dynamic characteristics of the sensor? I will explain why not only electronic circuits but the entire sensor design is important. I will introduce typical application examples that require millisecond-level speeds, provide findings from test results, and assist you in selecting the optimal sensor according to your needs. For more details, please refer to the related links below!

Announcement of Free Webinar: Semiconductor Resin Encapsulation Molding "Visualization Solutions for Inside Molds" and IoT Technology (4/20, 4/27, 5/11, 5/18)

In the semiconductor industry, particularly in the resin encapsulation process for power semiconductors aimed at NEVs (new energy vehicles), there is an increasing demand for the "visualization" of the internal conditions of molds to achieve zero defects in the manufacturing process. In this webinar, we will propose sensing technologies to improve molding defects using a quartz piezoelectric pressure sensor developed for low-viscosity resins, such as epoxy transfer molding, and for low-pressure measurements. - Low-viscosity resin compatibility ⇒ Structure that does not cause measurement errors due to epoxy resin intrusion (diaphragm structure) - High-temperature compatibility ⇒ Mold temperatures up to 200°C - Linearity (measurement error) ⇒ Less than 1% against the measurement range - Resolution ⇒ 1/1,000 MPa This webinar will be held on the following four dates, but the content will be the same on all dates, so please join us on a day that suits you! April 20, 2022 (Wednesday) April 27, 2022 (Wednesday) May 11, 2022 (Wednesday) May 18, 2022 (Wednesday) Please check the details and register via the registration form. https://info.kistler.com/ja-webinar-semicon We look forward to many participants joining us.

A rain gauge observation station using a water level meter and a remote data transmission unit continuously measures and records precipitation! What is the sponge city concept aimed at solving concentrated heavy rainfall and the urban heat island phenomenon?

At the "Innovation Lab" near Keller's headquarters, you can experience the "Sponge City." Keller's rain gauge observation stations equipped with sensors continuously measure and record precipitation. What is a Sponge City? The purpose of a Sponge City is to temporarily store and infiltrate rainwater on-site, processing it in a way that is closer to nature rather than directly draining it away. Soil and plants absorb water like a sponge and later release it through evaporation. This concept models a natural surface that can absorb far more water than paved urban areas. Rain gauge observation points, like those set up in the Innovation Lab, provide crucial data for long-term evaluation of the effects of such urban design. Keller's sensors in action At the Innovation Lab, the water level in areas where rainwater is stored is measured with high precision using the 36XW level gauge. The 36XW can measure not only water level but also water temperature simultaneously. The collected data is transmitted to the cloud via the remote data transmission unit ARC1 and displayed live. Additionally, the ARC1 measures atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature under direct sunlight, allowing for an understanding of the impact of sunlight on plants.

It is also possible to measure low water levels of 30cmH2O! There is also an explosion-proof type available.

Understanding Explosion-Proof Zones and Equipment Categories Correctly - What is an ATEX Zone? A Clear Explanation Using Real Examples

There is always a risk of explosion in areas where flammable gases, vapors, mists, or dust may be present. Examples include the chemical industry, energy supply, biogas plants, solvent processing facilities, hydrogen infrastructure, and gas distribution systems. An important point to understand about explosion protection is the location of the measurement point within the zones. A common misconception is that if flammable gas is used, the highest hazard classification automatically applies; however, the frequency of explosive atmospheres can vary significantly from one industrial plant to another. For instance, explosive mixtures may always be present inside a tank, while they rarely occur in well-ventilated piping areas, typically only during abnormal situations. This is precisely why ATEX systems classify zones as 0, 1, and 2. The related links below provide detailed explanations of the basic principles of ATEX zones, real-life examples from hydrogen filling stations, comparisons of protection concepts (why safety barriers or isolation amplifiers are necessary), and what types of pressure sensors we at KELLER can offer for each zone.

Pressure sensor for bipropellant rockets

A student team from Delft, Netherlands, is developing a bipropellant rocket powered by hydrogen peroxide. In the search for optimal components, KELLER Pressure became involved. Rockets using hydrogen peroxide as a propellant are not new. However, this fuel method has hardly been used since World War II and the early days of space development. "We wanted to recreate this fuel at a student level, in a low-cost and from-scratch development approach. Initially, the goal was simply to 'get it to fly,' but as we progressed, we evolved to the stage of designing a 'flyable vehicle.'" Two types of KELLER Pressure sensors are being used (M5HB for measuring pressure inside the engine and 7LC for measuring the pressure in the hydrogen peroxide and ethanol tanks). These sensors are lightweight, compact, and have excellent material compatibility. Additionally, the fact that the technical specifications are openly published has been appreciated. All necessary information can be checked on the website, allowing for compatibility assessments without needing to contact the sales representative. Communication after the decision to use the products was also smooth. For more details, please check the related links below!

Early leak detection at construction sites. Continuous recording and analysis of pressure and temperature data with real-time monitoring!

It is extremely important to detect leaks as early as possible during the construction phase. In particular, when moisture penetrates walls, floors, and ceilings, it can cause significant damage, much of which is due to leaks from water pipes. Traditional methods such as manual pressure testing and partial visual inspections have their limitations. What is needed is continuous and intelligent monitoring. AWOSSA provides a powerful and autonomous solution for the construction industry through digital leak monitoring. This system detects leaks early and automatically sends alerts, allowing for prevention before costly damages occur. Key features of the system: - Continuous recording and analysis of pressure and temperature data - Real-time leak detection at construction sites - Automatic notifications via email or SMS when set values are exceeded - Intuitive web interface for settings and data analysis How the system works: The sensors continuously monitor throughout the construction period, reliably detecting even slight changes in pressure or temperature. If an anomaly is detected, the responsible personnel are notified immediately. With a built-in battery, it can operate autonomously, and once the system is activated, monitoring begins automatically.
