This is a simple structure coupling that sandwiches a buffer material called an element (polyurethane elastomer) between two hubs. We have prepared two types of elements with different hardness levels to choose from, depending on the responsiveness in torque transmission and the amount of misalignment. Additionally, the polyurethane elastomer used for the element allows for double the torque transmission (compared to our previous models) and is designed with pre-compression on the element, enabling use with no backlash. Traditionally, power transmission with misaligned shafts has often been composed of spline shafts and universal joints, but the Schmidt coupling achieves compact and efficient power transmission. The Schmidt coupling is a misalignment coupling that utilizes the crank motion of links, where the power input at one end disk is transmitted to the other end disk via the links and center disk.
