BYK-1789 is a solvent-free, silicone-based defoamer for water-based thick films, quick-drying coatings, and adhesives. It improves defoaming and effectively prevents microfoam.

BYK-1789 is a very effective defoamer for water-based paints that is solvent-free. It particularly removes microfoam in thick film systems. BYK-1789 is also effective in fast-drying water-based systems. Additionally, it improves wetting of the paint on the substrate. Therefore, it is especially recommended for DTM (direct-to-metal) coatings. BYK-1789 has been specially developed for use in water-based epoxy systems. This additive has shear stability and is particularly suitable for airless spray painting. At the same time, it shows good compatibility and significant effectiveness in other systems, such as air-drying acrylates. Even after long-term storage of the paint, it retains its properties. With excellent defoaming and wetting properties, it can be considered the first choice for challenging water-based systems.

Inside the integrating sphere, a combination of sensors and shutters allows for analysis that distinguishes between wide-angle scattering and narrow-angle scattering based on their arrangement.
