What is deburring? A detailed explanation of the causes of burr formation, reasons for deburring, and methods.

Achieving skilled worker level deburring with FINESYSTEM's deburring robot cell.

Burrs refer to protrusions or excess parts that occur during the processes of metalworking or resin (plastic) processing, and they generally have irregular and sharp shapes. According to JIS standard JIS B 0051, they are defined as "residual material on a part resulting from machining or molding processes, located on the outside of the geometric shape at the edge of a corner." Burrs are formed during the process of cutting or shaping metal when the material stretches and tears. **Three Reasons to Remove Burrs:** - To prevent product failure and wear - To enhance assembly accuracy - To ensure product safety Traditionally, burr removal has been considered a task that is done manually. At FINESYSTEM, we are developing an automated burr removal system that achieves "skilled worker level burr removal" to address challenges such as high quality, labor hours, and worker shortages that have been identified in the burr removal process, as well as developing and manufacturing burr removal holders and tools. For more details, please check the related links or feel free to contact FINESYSTEM.

Simple Burr Removal Holder C10 Type

An inexpensive simple burr removal holder with a shrink mechanism of 10mm only in the axial direction.

The "C10 type" is a simple burr removal holder that can be used with machines equipped with NC, robots, and various dedicated machines. It comes standard with three types of springs of varying strengths, allowing customers to freely replace the internal spring according to the material of the workpiece being processed. It has a built-in 10mm contraction mechanism, enabling continuous pressure on the cutting edge while processing the burr removal surface. → This allows for burr removal processing while absorbing slight axial misalignment of the workpiece set on the machine! 【Features】 ■ Built-in 10mm contraction mechanism only in the axial direction ■ Comes standard with three types of springs of varying strengths ■ Maximum allowable rotational speed of 10,000 min-1 ■ Adjustable cutting force according to the material of the workpiece *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

High Torque Angle Head Holder QCT48-ASR16/20 Type

Approaching tight spaces for heavy-duty work! Powerful burr removal with high torque.

【FINESYSTEM Products: AF150 and AF110 Models, SFT48-HiSP-QC Model Exclusive】 - High Torque Air Float Attachments AF150 and AF110 Models - High Torque QC Motor Spindle SFT48-HiSP-QC Model This is a dedicated angle head holder that adopts our original standard QCT48 shank. ■ Enables deburring in narrow gaps of large workpieces! With robots equipped with large motor spindles, it was difficult to handle large workpieces such as aluminum die-cast, low-pressure casting, and gravity casting. However, by attaching the angle head holder, it is now possible to deburr in the narrow gaps of these large workpieces. ■ Nuts… Uses Hi-Q/ERB25 and Hi-Q/ERB32 nuts! ■ Collets… Adopts ER25 and ER32 collets that meet the world standard DIN6499/ISO15488. The gripping diameter for ASR16 is φ0.5 to φ16.0, and for ASR20 is φ0.5 to φ20.0. ■ Maximum rotation speed is 10,000 min-1 for ASR16 and 6,000 min-1 for ASR20. ■ High holding power is ensured by the unique dual-surface clamping QCT48 shank.

What is a spring mechanism holder for deburring? A detailed explanation of its structure, features, and challenges!

Utilizing the rebound force of the spring, 'tilting and stretching' is now possible!

A spring mechanism holder refers to a general term for holders that have a float mechanism utilizing the force of a spring. ■Strengths of the Spring Mechanism The deburring tool tilts and extends according to the shape of the product or burr, absorbing variations in burrs and product shapes, resulting in a smooth and beautiful finish. ■Challenges of the Spring Mechanism Due to the nature of springs, the more pressure applied, the stronger the rebound force becomes. In areas where excessive pressure is applied, the rebound force increases, leading to "digging" (over-removal) into the product. To resolve this, a "holder replacement" by the operator is necessary. ■FINESYSTEM's Solution FINESYSTEM focuses on holder designs that eliminate "digging" and employs a uniquely developed air float mechanism. By using "multiple ball guides (patented technology)," the cutting edge follows the workpiece shape, allowing for a tactile operation similar to that of a skilled worker's wrist, despite being a machine. With minimal teaching, it becomes possible to achieve smooth extension and tilting akin to a skilled worker's wrist, realizing zero "digging" (over-removal), which was the biggest challenge for deburring robots.

What is a rigid mechanism? A detailed explanation of its structure, characteristics, and challenges!

The strength of a rigid mechanism is that it has "minimal displacement due to external forces"!

The "rigid (fixed axis) mechanism" in deburring robots refers to a structure where cutting tools are firmly secured. ■ Strengths of the Rigid Mechanism The displacement of the cutting tool due to external forces is minimized, and it can withstand vibrations and shocks that occur during processing. This enables high-precision machining! ■ Challenges of the Rigid Mechanism Since the tool is firmly fixed in the holder, it cannot perform movements other than those specified during teaching. As a result, irregularly shaped burrs may remain. In the past, there have been companies that introduced rigid mechanisms but withdrew due to dissatisfaction with precision, ultimately returning the work to human hands. ■ FINESYSTEM's Solution: Zero Misfire Holder Design FINESYSTEM's air float-type deburring attachment can move the tool to match the work shape with minimal teaching, much like the wrist of a skilled worker. There is no need for precise teaching, and it can optimally respond to irregular shapes. This achieves "zero misfire (remaining material)," which was the biggest challenge for deburring robots!
