A multimode microplate reader capable of measuring absorbance, upward fluorescence, and emission with a single device.
The Thermo Scientific Varioskan ALF Multi-Mode Microplate Reader features an optical system for absorbance measurement based on a xenon flash lamp and monochromator, allowing for continuous wavelength selection in the range of 200 nm to 1,000 nm. Its wide wavelength range enables many common assays, including quantification of nucleic acids and proteins, bacterial growth curves, ELISA, and cell viability.
Fluorescence and luminescence measurements utilize a filter-based optical system, achieving suitable specificity and sensitivity. Three pre-installed excitation and emission filter sets are suitable for many common fluorescence applications, such as Thermo Scientific Quant-iT DNA quantification assays, PrestoBlue, and AlamarBlue cell viability assays. Additionally, five open filter positions allow for customization of fluorescence and luminescence measurements.
The automatic dynamic range selection feature chooses the appropriate dynamic range for fluorescence or luminescence based on the signal intensity in the well, eliminating the need for manual adjustments.
