[Case Study] Color Sand (Yokosuka Shobu Park)

Introducing examples of the use of permeable and water-retaining paving material "Color Sand" for creating garden paths that are less prone to puddles and easy to walk on!

In Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, our permeable and water-retaining paving material "Color Sand" has been adopted at the "Yokosuka Iris Garden." Opened in 1988, the "Yokosuka Iris Garden" had severe deterioration of its existing path paving, and it has now been renewed with our products. It is utilized as a path that is easy to walk on, even on rainy days, as it is less prone to puddles. In addition to irises, the garden also features wisteria, rhododendrons, and water lilies, providing enjoyment throughout the year. 【Benefits of Adoption】 ■ Disperses direct heat, reducing glare even in hot weather ■ The fine texture of the surface makes it less slippery even when it rains ■ No water splashes, making it easy to walk on even when the surface is wet ■ Provides a soft walking sensation, reducing strain on the legs and back ■ Color options that harmonize with the surrounding landscape can be selected *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

[Case Study] Color Sand (Shakujii River)

Bright and comfortable walkways even on rainy days! Introducing examples of the use of permeable and water-retaining paving material "Color Sand."

The walking path along the "Shakujii River" in Tokyo has adopted our permeable and water-retaining paving material, "Color Sand." Before the installation, when it rained, many people walked on the roadway due to poor footing, raising safety concerns. After the installation, even when it rains, puddles do not form, allowing for comfortable walking. As a result, the number of people walking on the roadway has decreased, which has pleased the local government officials. 【Benefits of Adoption】 ■ Disperses direct heat, reducing glare even on hot days ■ The surface has fine bumps, making it less slippery even in the rain ■ No water splashes, making it easy to walk on even when the surface is wet ■ Provides a soft walking sensation, reducing strain on the legs and back ■ Color options that harmonize with the surrounding landscape can be chosen *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Reasons why colored sand is strong against "freeze-thaw" cycles.

Introducing technical information about permeable blast furnace slag pavement "Color Sand"!

This document explains the reasons why "permeable and water-retaining pavement materials (color sand)" are strong against "freeze-thaw" cycles. Color sand is a pedestrian pavement material that possesses permeable and water-retaining functions while being sufficiently resistant to the repeated effects of freeze-thaw cycles during winter, making it "strong against frost damage." Among our pavement composition, the "filter layer" made from high furnace slag pavement, when used alone, has a significant effect in suppressing "frost heave phenomena." Furthermore, in freeze-thaw tests conducted at the Central Testing Laboratory of the Building Materials Testing Center, no cracking or destruction occurred even after completing 200 cycles. 【Excellent Features of the Aggregate (High Furnace Slag)】 ■ Porous Structure - Numerous fine voids release pressure caused by volume expansion during freezing. ■ Potential Hydraulic Properties - The main components of water-cooled slag (silica, alumina, lime, magnesia) solidify over time due to repeated water penetration. ◎ Sufficiently resistant to the repeated effects of freeze-thaw cycles. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or external link pages, or feel free to contact us.

The technical basis of "permeable blast furnace slag pavement" that balances permeability and water retention.

Introducing technical information about permeable and water-retaining blast furnace slag pavement "Color Sand"!

We will explain the technical basis of the "Permeable and Water-retaining Blast Furnace Slag Pavement (Color Sand)" that achieves both permeability and water retention. All of our paving materials use "water-quenched blast furnace slag" as the main aggregate. The aggregate itself has a fine porous structure, allowing it to provide both permeability and water retention. While typical permeable paving materials allow water to pass through at "points," our paving materials enable permeability across "surfaces" due to the nature of the aggregate itself, resulting in less clogging and maintaining permeability performance over a long period. Additionally, by cleaning with high-pressure washers, the permeability can be restored to about 80%. Further explanations regarding "permeability performance" and "water retention performance" can be found through external links. 【Introduction to Technical Information】 ■ Reasons for achieving both permeability and water retention ■ Permeability performance ■ Water retention performance ■ Our product lineup *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or external link pages, or feel free to contact us.

About the characteristics and benefits of blast furnace crushed slag used in colored sand.

Introducing technical information about permeable blast furnace slag pavement "Color Sand"!

This document explains the characteristics and benefits of the blast furnace crushed slag used in "permeable blast furnace slag pavement (color sand)." The "blast furnace crushed slag" used as aggregate in our paving materials is a byproduct generated simultaneously when producing pig iron from a blast furnace at major steel manufacturers. It can be easily separated as it floats on top of the molten pig iron. In addition to contributing to environmental load reduction, it has characteristics such as excellent gradation balance due to its uniform particle size. Further explanations on topics such as "What is steel slag?" and "Characteristics and general uses of blast furnace slag" can be found through external links. 【Technical Information Introduction】 ■ What is "steel slag"? ■ Characteristics and general uses of "blast furnace slag" ■ Reasons for adopting "blast furnace crushed slag" - Environmental load reduction, porous shape, latent hydraulicity, high internal friction angle, uniform particle size, safety *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or external link pages, or feel free to contact us.

Permeable pavement and water-retaining pavement materials [Case Study: Aoyama Cemetery]

Introducing examples of the use of permeable and water-retaining paving material "Color Sand"! <Aoyama Cemetery (Tokyo)> *Construction completed in 2021

A historic cemetery established in the 7th year of the Meiji era, Tokyo Aoyama Cemetery. In this cemetery, we have adopted permeable and water-retaining colored sand pavement materials for the newly developed square along Higashi San-dori. While it presents a different image from the traditional Aoyama Cemetery, the natural colors create an urban atmosphere. Thanks to the permeable and water-retaining pavement, puddles are less likely to form even on rainy days, making it a more accessible area compared to the old-style cemeteries and graveyards.

Permeable pavement and water-retaining pavement materials [Case study: Isesaki Citizen's Forest Park]

Introducing case studies of permeable and water-retaining pavement material "Color Sand"! <Isesaki Citizen's Forest Park (Gunma Prefecture)> *Constructed in 2000

In Isezaki City, Gunma Prefecture, at the representative park known as Isezaki Citizens' Forest Park, permeable pavement and water-retaining pavement material colored sand were adopted in 2000. More than 20 years have passed since the installation, and there have been no significant damages that would prevent walking, and it is still actively used as a path in the park, demonstrating one of the characteristics of colored sand: its durability. *Photo taken: May 2021

Introducing case studies of permeable and water-retaining pavement material "Color Sand"! <Hinokicho Park (Tokyo)> *Constructed in 2010

In Minato Ward, Tokyo, right next to Tokyo Midtown, we have adopted permeable and water-retaining colored sand pavement materials in the sloped area of Hinokicho Park. It has been about 12 years since the installation, so there are some areas with cracks, but the walkability has been maintained. In urban parks, natural colors that evoke an urban image are often used, and this location has also chosen those colors.
