Electrical discharge machining involves creating sparks by discharging between the workpiece and the electrode (machining tool), repeatedly melting, cooling, and dispersing the metal surface to process the metal. The discharge phenomenon occurs by applying voltage to the electrode, breaking the insulation in the gap between the two. As long as the material conducts electricity, it can be processed regardless of hardness, and since there is no physical contact between the workpiece and the machining tool, it places less strain on the materials, making it less likely to produce burrs on the cutting surface.
