The special regulations for preventing exposure during metal arc welding and similar operations have been revised.
"Welding fumes" and "basic manganese oxide" will be added to the specified chemical substances (Category 2 substances).
This is based on the recommendations of exposure limit values for manganese and its compounds by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and the European Commission Scientific Committee (EC) by recognizing that "welding fumes" and "manganese and its compounds" are likely to have different toxicities and health effects, thus positioning "welding fumes" as an independent specific chemical substance (Category 2 controlled substance). For the time being, it will not be classified as a special controlled substance, and it will be reconsidered when findings regarding carcinogenic substances become clear.
