Disinfection of the new coronavirus using Klaran (UVC LED for sterilization)

The sterilization effect of Klaran at a wavelength around 265nm is 7.4 times greater than that at 280nm. Sterilization can be achieved in a shorter time and with fewer LEDs.

A joint research project between Crystal IS, a subsidiary of Asahi Kasei, and Boston University NEIDL has demonstrated that the wavelength of 260nm-270nm emitted by Klaran (Asahi Kasei's sterilizing UVC LED) can inactivate (sterilize) the novel coronavirus with a lower ultraviolet exposure compared to the previously confirmed wavelength of 280nm. The actual measurement of the ultraviolet dose required for 99.9% sterilization of the virus revealed that at a wavelength of 268nm, only 5mJ/cm2 of ultraviolet exposure is needed, whereas at 280nm, a significantly higher dose of 37mJ/cm2, which is 7.4 times more, is required. 【Features】 ■ Sterilization of the novel coronavirus is possible using Klaran. ■ The sterilization effect of Klaran at wavelengths around 265nm is 7.4 times greater than that at 280nm. ■ Sterilization can be achieved in a shorter time and with fewer LEDs.
