The Tetra Spiraflow CIP & Water Heater is a tubular heat exchanger designed to directly heat CIP solutions and process water in-line using steam. This heater is equipped with a floating tube that absorbs thermal expansion caused by the temperature difference between the CIP solution and steam at the beginning of each stage of the cleaning cycle. The Tetra Spiraflow CIP heater is a single-pass heat exchanger, where the CIP solution flows through a parallel group of tubes. The heat transfer medium flows in the spaces around those tubes. The tubes for the CIP solution consist of several tubes of the same diameter. These tubes are of the corrugated type, which promotes turbulence in the liquid and enhances heat conduction. Case study of self-regulating heater: Prevention of liquid sugar recrystallization.

From steam to self-regulating heater, preventing recrystallization.

At the Mitsui Sugar Co., Ltd. Kobe Factory in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, self-regulating heaters were installed to prevent the re-crystallization of liquid sugar. Previously, warm air was directly blown into the liquid sugar tank, causing the liquid sugar to re-crystallize, which clogged the strainer (a mesh device used to remove solid components from liquids), resulting in longer shipping times and becoming a challenge. A self-regulating heater was proposed for heating the liquid sugar, which is prone to quality changes, and it was wrapped around the lower part of the liquid sugar tank to provide external heating. After installation, the introduction of the self-regulating heater reduced primary energy consumption by 56% due to the elimination of the need for heating and the resolution of heat loss. The prevention of re-crystallization shortened shipping times by 30 minutes annually, and the need for strainer cleaning was eliminated, achieving reduced maintenance. Furthermore, temperature uniformity improved quality and reduced the risk of microbial growth.
