Co-based alloy has excellent corrosion and wear resistance, and it is widely used for biomaterial and casting mold material. However, it could not be used for industrial product requiring mechanical strength because the strength is lower than an iron-based material. Although the addition of nitrogen or carbon is known to increase the strength of Co-based alloy, it is not sufficient to use as an industrial product. The lamination shaping method using Co-based alloy powder as raw material is also known to product a body with complex shape having excellent corrosion and wear resistance, but the product fabricated by this method has still not enough strength to use as an industrial product.  This invention is able to provide a Co-based alloy powder for electron beam lamination shaping with extremely high hardness & toughness which is comparable to that of a steel material, while keeping the corrosion and wear resistance of Co-based alloy. The Cobased alloy powder of this invention has a particle size of 1 to 200 mm. This invention enables the production of industrial product made by lamination shaping with high hardness & toughness while keeping the corrosion and wear resistance of Co-based alloy.

Co-based alloys such as Co-Cr-Mo alloys are excellent in corrosion resistance and wear resistance, and are widely used in various applications including biomaterials, casting mold materials, and dental casting materials. Furthermore, by using Co-Cr-Mo alloy powder with superior corrosion and wear resistance, it is possible to manufacture implant components with complex shapes. However, Co-Cr-Mo alloys have the challenge of being less hard than iron-based alloys, making them unsuitable for general industrial applications. This invention enables the provision of a hard Co-based alloy powder that maintains corrosion and wear resistance. The invention is characterized by being based on Co-Cr-Mo-N alloys with the addition of C. When this powder is used for additive manufacturing, a process of rapid heating, melting, and rapid cooling of the powder results in a laminate with superior properties beyond conventional Co-based alloys, thereby opening up applications for Co-based alloys in industrial products.

Realization of α"-Fe16N2particle powder with giant saturation magnetization

The international market price of neodymium has increased significantly in recent years. The reason seems to be the increasing demand for windpower generation and electric vehicle motor in China where the country is promoting decarbonization as a national policy. In addition, the perspective of economic security is discussed in Japan and there is a strong demand for magnetic material which does not contain rare earth. Low cost Fe-N magnetic material consisting only of iron and nitrogen has especially high expectation. In particular, α"-Fe16N2 which has BCT structure and predicted to have high magnetic saturation, has attracted much attention.  However, α"-Fe16N2 is a metastable compound that crystallizes when Fe-N compound is annealed, and there is almost no report of its isolation as a bulk material. The only few reported cases mention about eutectic crystal of α"-Fe16N2 and stable phase, or the existence for only 10 days at 100°C, so there is no example of α"-Fe16N2 single phase stable isolation as a bulk.  This invention is about the α"-Fe16N2 stable isolated powder. This magnetic powder shows a BHmax of more than 6 MGOe (48 kJ/m3), which is higher than ferrite and alnico. It also shows the saturation magnetization of 221 emu/g which exceeds metallic Fe, and the coercivity of more than 2 kOe (160 kA/m) which is higher than alnico and comparable to ferrite. Since this magnetic powder can produce magnet that outperforms ferrite and alnico without using rare earth, it is expected to be used in motor, etc. as an alternative to neodymium magnet which continues to rise in price.
