Overcoming with Honing & Cutting Processing! Countermeasures for Mold Loss Troubles

Lost the mold? No delivery date? In such cases, breakthrough with honing and machining.

"Could you please do it as soon as possible, somehow?" Among the drawings that arrived, there was a particularly eye-catching part. The material was FCD450—meaning cast iron. The quantity was small, just 30 pieces, but the shape was complex, and the drawing date was ten years ago. Feeling a slight unease, I confirmed with the customer, and as expected— "Actually, the current processing company has lost the mold..." Normally, it would be unavoidable to have a long lead time to remake the mold. However, the drawing specified **±0.005 dimensional tolerance and Ra0.2 surface roughness**, and furthermore, that area was the "cylinder sliding part." In other words, it was a high-precision part that required honing. At Bandai, we replaced everything with cutting without using a mold, and by collaborating with a honing-specialized processing partner, we achieved the shortest possible lead time. Even without a mold, and even with strict precision— Our **"Hometown Processing Network" at Bandai** can respond to those "troubles." *Please note that this kind of response is just a small part of what Bandai does every day. We invite you to see the value we can provide to our customers.*

The answer is not far away, but close by. The birth story of the "Processing Network."

If you can't find it even after searching, try relying on "connections."

In order to find partners for mass production sheet metal processing, I spent days making dozens of cold calls to processing companies nationwide. Even so, I was struggling to find any promising leads and felt stuck. It was during this time that the executive of a prototype processing company in Shimane, who has been a great help to us, casually mentioned, "Shall I introduce you to a sheet metal company strong in mass production?" — that one remark was the beginning of everything. The person in charge at the introduced company came from the prototype department of an agricultural machinery manufacturer. They excel in the know-how of keeping costs down without compromising quality, and there are processing companies nearby that can handle welding, cutting, and surface treatment. A system was established that could handle 700 items in one go within a few minutes' drive, and at that moment, the "Hometown Processing Network" was born. The answer was not far away, but right next to trust. *This kind of support is just a small part of what Bandai does every day. Please take a look at the value we can provide to our customers.

[Case Study] Achieving Emergency Deadline Response

Last-minute demand just before the long holiday! A case where we managed to deliver on schedule.

We would like to introduce a case where we achieved urgent delivery thanks to the cooperation between our hometown processing partner and the customer. The customer needed the product within two weeks, including the Obon holiday period, but there were no existing processing companies that could meet the deadline. They reached out to us with concerns about whether it was possible to deliver by the deadline. In this very tight timeframe, we included the overseas factory of "Hometown Processing Partner 11" as an option, and with the cooperation of the customer and the processing company they introduced, we were able to meet the request. [Case Overview (Partial)] - Processing machines used: NC lathe, machining center, brazing machine, cylindrical grinder - Material: C1100 (pure copper) - Quantity: 2 pieces - Manufacturing processing companies: Hometown Processing Partner 11, the customer's existing processing company *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

[Introducing with Manga] The supplier has gone out of business... We'll manage to procure difficult-to-process materials somehow!

It's okay even if the supplier goes out of business. Bandai is a "company that will figure it out"!

"Our supplier has gone out of business, and we can't find an alternative processing partner... I don't even know where to turn for processing this material..." In such a procurement crisis, Bandai responds with full effort. This time, the supplier for a part with high processing difficulty suddenly went out of business, halting procurement. Initially, there were issues, but Bandai collaborated with processing companies to resolve the problems and successfully completed the delivery. Furthermore, after delivery, we focused on alternative processing methods and explored possibilities for better solutions, leading to improvement proposals. "Delivery is not the end" but "the real start begins after delivery" — This is an example of the trust placed in Bandai's approach. ➡ For more details, please check "Download the Catalog"! Introducing with Manga: Is it okay to rely on EC sites for the procurement of mass-produced parts?

Are you feeling the limits of procurement through EC sites, including the responsibility for stable procurement and price negotiations?

"While e-commerce sites are convenient, they don't allow for advance orders or inventory holding... When usage increases, concerns about stable supply arise. Cost reduction is also necessary..." To those in charge facing such procurement challenges, Bandai proposed a custom solution by developing new procurement sources that are not tied to existing suppliers. By comprehensively considering the characteristics of the parts, usage volume, and supply stability, we discovered suppliers with strengths in "those parts" from scratch. We achieved both stable supply and cost reduction. ➡ For more details, please check "Download the Catalog"! Click below to explore other case studies that address similar concerns!

[Introducing with Manga] Can't process according to the drawings!? What do you do then?

Parts with strict processing and tolerance... If you are told "it's impossible," who will you turn to for help?

"Just before the deadline, we received a message from the supplier saying, 'We can't process it according to the drawings...' Other suppliers are also unable to respond... It might already be too late..." Faced with such a crisis, Bandai proposed a solution: instead of relying on a single company, we divided the processing tasks and combined the best processing partners for each step. Even if it's difficult for one company, by connecting the strengths of multiple companies, we can tackle the challenges of difficult processing and short delivery times, ensuring successful delivery. ➡ For more details, please check 'Download the Catalog'! [Introducing with Manga] How to find multiple suppliers for BCP measures?

BCP response, when you feel overwhelmed. 100 drawings, what is the key to solving it?

"As a BCP measure, develop new suppliers for nearly 100 parts." Even if I'm told that—there aren't enough man-hours, information, or manpower on-site. To increase suppliers, costs must be kept in check. The specifications of the drawings are inconsistent, and the processing methods vary... Who should I ask, from where, and how? In such a complex situation, Bandai proposed an approach to review the drawings and processing content from "a certain perspective." ➡ For more details, please check "Download the Catalog!" Introducing with Manga: The Return of Overseas Procured Parts to Domestic Production, What Will the Costs Be?

Is it time to reconsider overseas procurement? Why not look for the "just right" balance in both quality and cost?

"I want to switch from overseas procurement to domestic procurement." Such voices have been increasing at Bandai recently. Rising prices, supply chain disruptions, unstable quality... As the overseas procurement that was supposed to be "cheap, with reasonable delivery times and quality" begins to show signs of decline, what is needed now is the next option. However, if we switch back to domestic procurement, costs will rise. Is it something we have to do anyway? No, what if there is another possibility? ➡ For more details, please check "Download the Catalog!" Click below to explore other case studies that address your concerns!

Respond quickly to aluminum machined products that include "anodizing"!

If you are an aluminum processing specialist in the "Hometown Processing Network," you can handle everything in-house from cutting processing to anodizing!

The other day, we received a request from a customer saying, "I have 10 aluminum machined parts, and I was wondering if you could handle them urgently." When we asked about the desired delivery date, they replied, "If possible, within a week. There is also anodizing involved; can you manage that?" It's a tough request. Upon checking the drawings, the surface treatments specified were "white anodizing," "black anodizing," and "hard anodizing," with various types of anodizing required. Even if the machining is completed quickly, it seems that transportation to the surface treatment company and setup will take at least 2 to 3 days. Therefore, it looks like the anodizing process will be the bottleneck this time. *For more details, you can view the blog through the related links. I went to the Kansai Machine Elements Technology Exhibition for the first time in a while.

Exhibiting with the theme of metal processing! Photos of the situation at that time are included in the title.

I attended the Kansai Machine Element Technology Exhibition held at Intex Osaka from October 4 to 6. The exhibition focused on metal processing, and each year we showcased different elements, resulting in great success for both. I wondered what kind of processing companies were exhibiting, so I visited various booths, but most of them were things that could be handled by the "Hometown Processing Network." *For more details, you can view the blog through the related links. C1100 cutting + brazing + waterproof testing! Difficult-to-process materials solved through networking.

No processing destination? That's when the "Hometown Processing Network" comes into play.

"Do you know anywhere that can perform machining on C1100 (pure copper)?" This inquiry marked the beginning of the current project. While there are many vendors that can handle brass materials, C1100 is in a different category. Due to its high conductivity and softness, machining it is challenging, and the number of vendors capable of doing so is very limited. Furthermore, this time, in addition to lathe work, machining, and brazing, a high level of difficulty is required with the addition of "water tightness testing." Typically, it would be necessary to individually request each process from multiple vendors that specialize in each type of machining. However, Bandai utilizes its "Hometown Processing Network" to select and coordinate suitable processing vendors for each step, establishing a system for integrated support. Customers can simply place their orders with Bandai, entrusting the entire complex process of division of labor to us. *This type of support is just a small part of what Bandai does on a daily basis. Please take a look at the value we can provide to our customers.*

Changing the drawings is difficult, but I believe it is worth it.

The connection between the drawing content and the processing content demonstrates cost reduction effects as the complexity of the shape increases!

Materials: S45C-D or SGD400-D Dimensions: φ15.20×150L±0.05, φ15.40×150L±0.05, φ15.60×150L±0.05 Quantity: 1 piece each No surface treatment required This is a processed item requested by a customer the other day. What do you think the unit price is? I believe there may be price differences depending on the processing company, but it should be around 3,000 to 4,000 yen per piece. *For more details, you can view the blog through the related link. For more information, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.*

Nippon Seiko, Daido Metal Industry, Bandow Chemical! Introducing the major manufacturers for which we serve as sales agents.

Surprisingly, our company is listed on the electronic scoreboard at Suzuka Circuit as the sales agent for "NSK" (Nippon Seiko). It is written in red letters within a blue frame! It stands out more than Denso and Aisin. Even in my private time, I find myself searching for blog topics. Is this a professional hazard? Since it's a special occasion, I would like to briefly introduce the major manufacturers for which Bandai Co., Ltd. serves as the sales agent. *You can view the detailed content of the blog through the related links.
