This is the aluminum office chair (reproduction) by Charles and Ray Eames, representing mid-century design. The original product only had a tilt mechanism (tilting forward and backward), but the E-comfort version has been made more user-friendly with an added height adjustment feature. Charles Eames adopted aluminum to reduce weight for the lounge chair and incorporated a five-legged design to improve stability. This product was made possible by the development of aluminum die-casting mass production technology during that time. Both the pursuit of original authenticity and the reproduction that adds new functions without breaking the design are aspects of what it means to be generic.
