Contributing to cost reduction through chip size reduction and package changes while maintaining the characteristics of existing products!
Due to the discontinuation of an LED from a certain manufacturer, the customer decided to redevelop the photoelectric sensor module, considering cost reduction. During the timing of the visit, where the customer was contemplating purchasing from two companies and requesting custom IC development, the flow for custom IC development was established. Using our process, we achieved characteristics similar to the current product. Since there were process differences, we implemented circuit modifications to obtain similar characteristics. Additionally, we made changes to the PKG pin count and size from the conventional product to achieve cost reduction. As a result, we obtained characteristics equivalent to (desired) those of the conventional product, which also led to the development of further derivative products. The OR18 series is a cylindrical photoelectric sensor with digital (ON/OFF) output that has been redesigned down to the smallest details, including the light source, output circuit, and setting method. It features a newly developed "Pinpoint LED" as the light source. The Pinpoint LED is an LED light source that produces a focused light spot similar to a laser. This allows for the detection and positioning of small parts, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. The output employs a "Push-Pull circuit," which can output both PNP and NPN signals. Depending on the application you are using, you can choose either PNP or NPN. The setting method utilizes "qTeach," which involves setting the sensor by holding a driver over the recessed area at the bottom of the sensor body.
