It is the most theoretically superior and reliable method for mechanically measuring the flow rate of gases and liquids. The flow rate within a pipe can also be determined from the pipe's cross-sectional area and average flow velocity. The tip of a standard Pitot tube has a total pressure port, and a static pressure port on the side.
