This is a case of extremely small crank bending with a rise dimension of about 5mm. [Material] Copper 1t [Process] Fiber laser, bender (crank bending + roll) Concerns regarding the bending process of copper plates: The rise dimension for crank bending is small, and conventional bending processes cannot be performed as they interfere with the mold. We devised and prototyped a mold that allows for bending, proposed that processing is possible, and received an order. First, we designed the mold and cut it using our fiber laser equipment. We then welded and polished the pieces together to create a prototype mold. We attached it to the bender for trial bending, repeatedly improving the mold until we achieved accurate dimensions in one go. We had a machining partner manufacture the mold through cutting, and we performed the main processing in-house. Although the cost of mold production was incurred, it led to the resolution of the customer's initial concerns about being unable to process. The customer decided to proceed with production at Showei, believing that the costs of the mold could be recovered through repeated orders.
