The black liquor recovery boiler burns black liquor (Na2SO4), which is the waste liquid from caustic soda (NaOH) used in the paper-making process, to recover green liquor (smelt, primarily composed of Na2S), which is a raw material for caustic soda. Additionally, the heat generated during the combustion of black liquor is utilized for steam in the factory and for power generation.
