The "Monolithic ODS Column Chromolith RP-18" manufactured by MERCK is a ligand-exchange type column for optical isomer separation, coated with the chiral selector SUMICHIRAL OA-5000. Monolithic HPLC columns use a cylindrical silica continuum instead of a 3-5 μm silica gel support. This silica continuum consists of a structure of macropores (approximately 2 μm) and mesopores (approximately 13 nm), with a high porosity of about 80%.
