"Trivalent chromium plating" is a chromium plating that uses a trivalent chromium plating solution and is free of hexavalent chromium. The metallic chromium that precipitates as a plating film is safe; however, depending on the shape of the product, there is a risk that hexavalent chromium from the plating solution may remain in fine processing areas and gaps. [Case Study] Trivalent Chromium Plating Resistant to Deicing Salt in Cold Regions

The key point is our ability to use trivalent chromium plating baths for mass production with the necessary equipment and management capabilities!

We would like to introduce a case where a trivalent chromium plating that can withstand de-icing salt in cold regions was proposed. In cold regions, de-icing salt is spread on roads, and if it remains on the surface of plated products for an extended period, the plating film corrodes. Therefore, a resin plating that can withstand de-icing salt was considered. The chromium film created from a standard hexavalent chromium plating bath has low calcium chloride resistance, and corrosion progresses in environments where large amounts of de-icing salt are used. Thus, we proposed a plating using a trivalent chromium plating bath with high calcium chloride resistance. To make the appearance closer to standard glossy chrome, we developed a new trivalent chromium (silver). [Concerns] - Calcium chloride, used as de-icing salt, dissolves in moisture to generate chloride ions, which corrode the plating film. - The chromium film created from a standard hexavalent chromium plating bath has low calcium chloride resistance, and corrosion progresses in environments where large amounts of de-icing salt are used. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

We would like to introduce a case where we successfully achieved cost reduction through a VA proposal for our client.

Case 4: Trivalent Chromium Plating (Barrel Plating) ■ Electric Manufacturer F Company For a product from our client company, we were performing nickel + decorative chromium plating (hexavalent chromium) on small aluminum A 5052 machined parts using jigs. The required quality included specified film thickness, no scratches, and corrosion resistance with no white rust occurring after 48 hours in the JIS neutral salt spray test. However, since the products were small in size, we proposed barrel nickel plating + barrel trivalent chromium plating. As a result of prototype evaluation, we cleared all the required quality standards, leading to a specification change and achieving cost reduction.
