Examples of using metal 3D printers in jigs and tools.

By utilizing metal 3D printers, we achieved weight reduction of fixtures through the use of lightweight steel types and a hollow structure. We were also able to improve processing efficiency and safety.

As a jig for NC lathes, we proposed the use of lightweight and high-strength titanium alloy for metal additive manufacturing to customers who have previously used iron-based materials. By adopting a hollow structure, we achieved a 50% reduction in weight, which increased the rotation rate of the NC lathe by 20%, resulting in a 15% improvement in productivity. Furthermore, the reduction in jig weight allowed operators to handle it with one hand, enhancing both safety and work efficiency. It is true that metal 3D printers have the disadvantage of not being suitable for mass production, but they can handle mass production if the items are small. For example, if there are 100 types of aluminum caps, it would require preparing 100 different molds, but with a metal 3D printer, all 100 types of aluminum caps can be created in a single print (there is no need to print 100 times). [Case Study] Guhring UK

Gühring UK manufactures custom cutting and milling tools for large companies around the world. Depending on the size and complexity of the components, it used to take up to 8 weeks to design, test, and manufacture using special tools in-house. Metal Binder Jetting Metal 3D Printer 'PX100'

It can create high-precision metal parts at ultra-high speeds. It supports the manufacturing of complex production-grade metal parts and enables mass production at the required timing.

Markforged's 'PX100' is a metal 3D printer using metal binder jetting technology. It has been developed for mass production of parts based on the high-precision binder jetting technology cultivated by Digital Metal. It features a print head equipped with 70,400 nozzles and offers a resolution of 1600 dpi, enabling production of approximately 500 cm3 of parts per hour under normal conditions, with a maximum of 1000 cm3 per hour. As of December 2022, there are 10 certified materials available, with more materials to be added in the future. The standard layer thickness of the powder is 42 μm. The high productivity of this printer contributes to reducing part costs. This has been achieved through a robust manufacturing platform and continuously improved control software. Additionally, it is equipped with features for enhancing and automating the production line, such as the capability to expand the inert gas supply module in preparation for future material additions and a mechanism for feeding materials prepared by the PPS1000 (automatic powder preparation unit) into the printer. This is a virtual tour (360° video) where you can observe the operation of Digital Metal's binder jetting 3D printer.

Introduction of case studies from Digital Metal research institutions (with video)

We will introduce a case study of a research institution that has decided to implement our developed binder jetting metal 3D printer in a video.

Our binder jetting metal 3D printer has been introduced to national institutions equivalent to Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology in both France and the UK. The equipment was delivered to France's Cetim in 2017 and to the UK's MTC in 2018, where it is being utilized.
