Copper-based micro parts Metal Injection Molding (MIM)

A new technology that enables mass production of intricate shapes that are difficult to achieve with cutting processes! It eliminates the high material costs unique to copper.

Copper is a metal that excels in electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity, and is used in various applications, including electronic devices, resulting in the existence of many complex and finely shaped copper parts. Taihei Industry proposes cost reduction solutions through the adoption of Metal Injection Molding (MIM) for current mass-produced parts, which have high material costs and poor material yield when produced by cutting, as well as for complex-shaped parts that are difficult to process by cutting in the first place. We can accommodate a variety of copper-based materials, from pure copper to brass, nickel silver, and cupronickel! Taihei Industry proposes cost reduction solutions through the adoption of MIM for current mass-produced parts, which have high material costs and poor material yield when produced by cutting, as well as for complex-shaped parts that are difficult to process by cutting. *For more details, please download the catalog or contact us directly.

Metal Injection Molding (MIM)

Metal injection molding (MIM) enables mass production of complex shapes. It is a method suitable for mass-produced items with intricate designs.

This is an introduction to Metal Injection Molding (MIM). It is a method suitable for mass production of complex shapes with product weights of approximately 10g to 20g. (When exceeding 30g, it tends to be more cost-effective to perform additional processing on precision cast products.) The method offers high freedom of shape, allowing for sharp edges, irregular holes, and three-dimensional shapes. We can accommodate quantities starting from several hundred pieces per lot. We specialize in small quantities of diverse products. Please feel free to consult with us. 【Features of Metal Injection Molding (MIM)】 ■ High dimensional accuracy can be achieved. ■ Surface roughness is approximately Rmax 8μm, and it is possible to achieve sub-micron surface roughness with processes like glossy barrel finishing. ■ Heat treatment and surface treatment equivalent to that of melted materials are possible. 【What is Metal Injection Molding (MIM)?】 It is a method that combines the technologies of plastic injection molding and metal powder metallurgy. It achieves mechanical strength close to that of melted materials, which cannot be obtained through powder sintering. Metal powder is injected together with resin to form the shape. After that, solvent debinding is performed, followed by vacuum sintering. At this stage, the product dimensions shrink, requiring expertise and experience.

MIM suitable for processing difficult-to-cut materials such as stainless steel and titanium.

By changing the processing that was traditionally done through cutting to the MIM method, we have reduced costs by 50%, eliminated parting lines, and improved appearance!

The MIM manufacturing method involves molding two parts and joining them, but it allows for molding with a single mold. This eliminates PL step differences at the joints and deformation of hollow sections due to joining pressure, resulting in cost reductions through integration. Depending on the metal material, it can flexibly accommodate difficult-to-machine materials (such as stainless steel and titanium) and complex shapes, enabling metal molding. Since molds are created, mass production is also possible. 【Features】 ■ No PL step differences at the joints ■ No deformation of hollow sections due to joining pressure ■ Cost reductions through integration ■ Metal molding is possible even for complex shapes that are difficult to machine ■ Mass production is possible due to mold creation ■ Flexible response depending on the metal material *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Metal Injection Molding 'LIMIM'

Adoption of a manufacturing process that integrates degreasing and sintering! Providing low-cost, high-quality precision metal parts.

"LIMIM" is a technology that produces molded parts using injection molding techniques from a material made by kneading metal fine powder and a resin-based binder. Next, the binder component is removed from the molded part, and the remaining metal fine powder component is sintered to manufacture precision metal parts (silver bodies). It enables mass production of three-dimensional complex-shaped parts that are difficult to manufacture using cutting, forging, die casting, casting, or press sintering. It addresses secondary processing issues such as hole machining and the integration of composite parts, providing the final shape that users require.

Metal Injection Molding (MIM)

We can produce metal multi-faceted machined products that are difficult to mass-produce using lathe processing and machining!

We would like to introduce 'MIM (Metal Injection Molding)' conducted at Kikuchi Manufacturing Co., Ltd. This technology involves mixing metal powder with a special synthetic resin, which is then injection molded, degreased, and sintered, vaporizing only the resin to create metal parts (96-97%). It enables the production of complex metal parts that are difficult to mass-produce through lathe and machining processes. We have 12 dedicated horizontal injection molding machines for MIM and 7 dedicated vacuum degreasing and sintering furnaces. 【Features】 ■ Our company has unique technology in the sintering process. ■ We can provide a consistent order system from cutting processing to prototype molds and mass production molds. ■ Based on the relationships cultivated with our customers' research and development departments in the prototype mold business, we enable a smoother start to mass production. ■ We contribute to speeding up the market launch of products. *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.
