We are currently offering two detailed documents (one for general use and one for professionals) introducing the special stainless steel "Silicoalloy," which combines high hardness and high corrosion resistance with properties such as high strength, heat resistance, wear resistance, and anti-seizing characteristics. By actively utilizing silicon (Si), which was traditionally considered an impurity, as a substitute for carbon (C), and further precipitating fine intermetallic compounds, a new material has been born that was previously unimaginable. We have prepared a 'Technical Handbook' that clearly explains the properties for beginners, and a 'Technical Handbook Pro' that contains abundant testing data on various properties. Please make use of these as supplementary materials in the research and development of Silicoalloy (such as Silicoalloy XVI, Silicoalloy A2, etc.), stainless steel (SUS630, SUS440C, SUS420J2, etc.), and heat treatment technologies. Generally, martensite in iron alloys that do not contain carbon is soft and highly ductile, but on the other hand, it has low strength, and since there is almost no carbon present even after tempering, carbide precipitation hardening is not achievable. Instead of carbides, fine precipitate particles of intermetallic compounds are dispersed to enhance strength, as seen in precipitation-hardened stainless steels such as SUS630 and SUS631, as well as ultra-high-strength maraging steels. Among silicoalloy steels, "Silicoalloy A2" and "Silicoalloy XVI" utilize the precipitation hardening mechanism, particularly characterized by the refined matrix structure of "Silicoalloy XVI," which has hard intermetallic compounds precipitating. Precipitation hardened stainless steel achieves high hardness through relatively low-temperature heat treatment, resulting in fewer issues such as distortion, cracking, and oxidation scale attachment compared to quenched steel. This contributes to the simplification of the processing process and shorter delivery times. Precipitation hardened silicon alloy features minimal dimensional changes during aging heat treatment and surface modification processes at temperatures below 500°C. The precipitation-hardened silicon alloy can achieve localized high hardness depending on the application. When both hardness and toughness are required, localized solution heat treatment can be performed, and aging heat treatment can be implemented to achieve high hardness only in the necessary areas. Unlike high-frequency quenching, the precipitation-hardened silicon alloy does not become highly hardened after high-frequency heat treatment. Since it can be sufficiently processed after high-frequency heat treatment (solution treatment), there is greater design flexibility. "Silicoroy B2" and "Silicoroy D" are high-silicon stainless steels that contain a large amount of Si (silicon) as one of their chemical components. "Silicoroy B2" is a duplex stainless steel (austenitic-ferritic) that has higher strength than austenitic stainless steels and possesses corrosion resistance equivalent to or greater than SUS316. On the other hand, "Silicoroy D" is an austenitic stainless steel with hot strength equivalent to SUS310S. "Silicoloy" has composite properties of heat resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and high-temperature oxidation resistance, contributing to a reduction in the frequency of roller replacements, maintenance, and overall cost reduction. "Silicoloy A2" is an all-round type stainless steel containing approximately 3.5% high silicon in its chemical composition. Silicon contributes to properties such as heat resistance, oxidation resistance, hardness, strength, and corrosion resistance.
