Free Handbook for Engineers and Designers on High-Performance Stainless "Silico Alloy"

Information packed about an all-around material that combines high hardness, high corrosion resistance, heat resistance, and wear resistance! Two documents (for general use and professional use) are available for free.

We are currently offering two detailed documents (one for general use and one for professionals) introducing the special stainless steel "Silicoalloy," which combines high hardness and high corrosion resistance with properties such as high strength, heat resistance, wear resistance, and anti-seizing characteristics. By actively utilizing silicon (Si), which was traditionally considered an impurity, as a substitute for carbon (C), and further precipitating fine intermetallic compounds, a new material has been born that was previously unimaginable. We have prepared a 'Technical Handbook' that clearly explains the properties for beginners, and a 'Technical Handbook Pro' that contains abundant testing data on various properties. Please make use of these as supplementary materials in the research and development of Silicoalloy (such as Silicoalloy XVI, Silicoalloy A2, etc.), stainless steel (SUS630, SUS440C, SUS420J2, etc.), and heat treatment technologies. Examples of material shapes include round bars, forged materials, wire rods, and metal powders (small quantities of various types). We are currently developing a new Silicoalloy-based material (high strength and high durability type at 2000 MPa level), with a planned release in the autumn of 2024. *For more details, please download the PDF or contact us directly.

What is high-performance stainless "Silicoloy"? *High hardness × corrosion resistance

The balance of high Si and low C is characteristic! The composition of Ni, Cr, and precipitation strengthening elements is adjusted according to the application.

Generally, martensite in iron alloys that do not contain carbon is soft and highly ductile, but on the other hand, it has low strength, and since there is almost no carbon present even after tempering, carbide precipitation hardening is not achievable. Instead of carbides, fine precipitate particles of intermetallic compounds are dispersed to enhance strength, as seen in precipitation-hardened stainless steels such as SUS630 and SUS631, as well as ultra-high-strength maraging steels. Among silicoalloy steels, "Silicoalloy A2" and "Silicoalloy XVI" utilize the precipitation hardening mechanism, particularly characterized by the refined matrix structure of "Silicoalloy XVI," which has hard intermetallic compounds precipitating. For more details, please download and view the catalog. 【Precipitation-Hardened Silicoalloy】 ■ Silicoalloy A2 ■ Silicoalloy XVI *For more information, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

About the heat treatment characteristics of high-performance stainless steel "Silicoloy".

Introducing the heat treatment of the precipitated hardening silicone alloy! We will solve issues related to the processing process.

Precipitation hardened stainless steel achieves high hardness through relatively low-temperature heat treatment, resulting in fewer issues such as distortion, cracking, and oxidation scale attachment compared to quenched steel. This contributes to the simplification of the processing process and shorter delivery times. Precipitation hardened silicon alloy features minimal dimensional changes during aging heat treatment and surface modification processes at temperatures below 500°C. Silicon alloy resolves processing process issues. For more details, please download and view the catalog. 【Heat Treatment Features】 ■ Quenched Steel: Quenching and Tempering - Rapid cooling from high temperatures (water cooling or oil cooling) can easily cause distortion and cracking. - Dimensional changes require finishing processes. ■ Precipitation Hardened Aging Heat Treatment / Two-Step Aging Treatment - Air cooling from relatively low temperatures makes distortion and cracking less likely. - Dimensional changes require finishing processes. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

High-performance stainless steel "Silicoroy" localized high hardness technology - Workability

Local high hardness technology using precision high-frequency heat treatment! Only the necessary areas can be hardened!

The precipitation-hardened silicon alloy can achieve localized high hardness depending on the application. When both hardness and toughness are required, localized solution heat treatment can be performed, and aging heat treatment can be implemented to achieve high hardness only in the necessary areas. Unlike high-frequency quenching, the precipitation-hardened silicon alloy does not become highly hardened after high-frequency heat treatment. Since it can be sufficiently processed after high-frequency heat treatment (solution treatment), there is greater design flexibility. For more details, please download and view the catalog. 【Examples of Localized High Hardness Products】 ■ Special Shafts - Only the tip and sliding parts are hardened to high hardness (HRC50 and above) - The overall structure retains toughness (HRC35) ■ Bridge Support Rollers - Only the surface of the rollers is hardened to high hardness (HRC50 and above) - The overall structure retains toughness (HRC35) *For more details, please refer to the PDF materials or feel free to contact us.

Examples of applications for high-performance stainless steel "Silicoroy."

Contributes to the longevity of rollers! There are numerous usage records at various steel mills, especially for billets.

"Silicoloy" has composite properties of heat resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and high-temperature oxidation resistance, contributing to a reduction in the frequency of roller replacements, maintenance, and overall cost reduction. "Silicoloy A2" is an all-round type stainless steel containing approximately 3.5% high silicon in its chemical composition. Silicon contributes to properties such as heat resistance, oxidation resistance, hardness, strength, and corrosion resistance. Rollers made of Silicoloy A2 are particularly used for top rollers (foot rollers) for billets and have numerous proven results. 【Features of Silicoloy】 ■ Corrosion resistance: Relatively high corrosion resistance against water and strongly acidic powders. ■ Fracture toughness (heat check resistance): Minimal occurrence of heat cracks from repeated high temperature to rapid cooling, with excellent resistance to crack propagation. ■ High-temperature corrosion wear resistance: Superior overall performance, contributing to the longevity of rollers. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Precipitation hardening stainless steel "Axia" *has minimal thermal treatment deformation and dimensional changes.

A new material with a high hardness of 56-58 HRC, high corrosion resistance equivalent to austenitic phase, and high strength of 2000 MPa class has been developed: precipitation-hardened stainless steel!

By precipitating hard metal intermetallic compounds through aging treatment, high hardness and wear resistance are improved; however, there was a challenge where the tensile strength and yield strength of our conventional steel (Silico Alloy XVI) decreased. At Silico Alloy Lab, we succeeded in fine and dispersed design of intermetallic compounds through component design! We have developed a new stainless material that adds [high strength × high yield] to [hardness × corrosion resistance]. 【Features of Axia Zero3】 ■ High hardness of 56–58 HRC ■ High corrosion resistance equivalent to austenitic phase ■ Achieves high strength of 2000 MPa class ■ High hardness can be achieved at tempering temperature equivalent (aging treatment at 480°C) ■ Minimal thermal deformation and dimensional changes It is possible to reduce total costs through new product development, problem-solving, and extending lifespan. *For details, please download the PDF or contact us directly.
