The Au-Cu metallic glass material is a gold-copper (Au-Cu) based metallic glass that can be processed through viscous flow at temperatures just below 100°C. It was developed by the Institute for Materials Research at Tohoku University. By establishing a processing method for Au-Cu metallic glass that possesses corrosion resistance comparable to stainless steel and fracture strength similar to high-strength steel, it has become possible to create shapes that were previously impossible with stainless steel or high-strength steel, as well as to manufacture high-precision micro parts. This opens up possibilities for various applications in fields such as medical devices, semiconductors, and sensors. Additionally, it allows for easy transfer of ultra-fine patterns onto metals (nano-imprinting) if the material can withstand 100°C, making it suitable for use as a master mold and simplifying the transfer process to metals.
