Here is an introduction to a case study of fine processing of molybdenum. Molybdenum, like tungsten, is a high melting point material and has similar properties. Compared to tungsten, its performance is slightly lower (melting point: 2620°C), and as a result, it is known as a cost-effective alternative. Sleeve (hard turning process)

Parts used in precision measuring instruments! We have a monthly shipment record of 5,000 units and can accommodate up to 100,000 units.

The sleeve (hard turning process) is a component that guides the outer part of the section where the measuring terminal moves. A cylindrical tolerance of 2 microns for the inner diameter is required to enable precise measurements. The material is stainless steel 440C, hardened to HRC60 or above through vacuum hardening. After heat treatment, the outer diameter is first finished using centerless grinding. With an outer diameter of 7mm and a dimensional tolerance of 12 microns, coaxiality between the inner and outer diameters requires 4 microns, so the inner diameter is processed based on the outer diameter after finishing it. Piston (hard turning processing)

The material is chromium-molybdenum steel SCM415! It has undergone carburizing and quenching, achieving a hardness of over HRC60!

The process of performing grinding-level machining through turning is called "hard turning." Pistons used in hydraulic systems for construction machinery require extremely high precision, with outer and inner diameter tolerances of ±2 microns, surface roughness of Ra0.4 microns, coaxiality of inner and outer diameters of 3 microns, and perpendicularity between the end face and outer diameter of 3 microns as the required specifications. At our company, after heat treatment, we simultaneously machine the outer diameter, inner diameter, and both end faces using NC lathes, achieving machining equivalent to grinding through turning. By consolidating four processes into one, we enable process shortening and cost reduction. Additionally, simultaneous machining allows us to guarantee the coaxiality of the outer and inner diameters and the perpendicularity to the end face. [Processing Example] Hastelloy Fine Hole Machining

Introducing a machining example of difficult-to-cut materials: drilling 20mm from both sides with a drill to create a 0.2mm hole that passes through 40mm!

We would like to introduce an example of fine hole machining of the representative difficult-to-machine material Hastelloy C276. In lathe processing, holes are drilled from both sides by 20mm each, resulting in a 0.2mm hole that is 40mm deep. The relationship between hole depth and diameter is expressed as L/d, where L is the depth and d is the diameter. Normally, an L/d of 10 is already considered difficult, but in this case, it is L/d 200. Since we use a 0.2mm drill, it is usually too thin and prone to breaking or bending. [Processing Example] Fine Processing of Platinum (Pt 90%, Au 10%)

Platinum is suitable for making high-purity glass! We can accommodate up to 500 pieces per month.

Here is an example of a nozzle for glass equipment that has undergone fine processing with platinum. When glass is heated and refined, it tends to absorb metallic components, but platinum has the least absorption. The outer diameter of the shaft is φ0.2mm, which is less than half the thickness of a mechanical pencil lead (0.5mm). The tip has a hole with an inner diameter of φ0.15mm, and the wall thickness is 0.025mm. If you imagine a thickness less than one-third of a regular mechanical pencil, you can understand how small it is. Additionally, the φ0.15mm section is about 3mm long and connects to a φ1mm hole on the opposite side. Our company can also enhance the surface roughness of the inner surface through polishing. [Processing Example] High-Precision Machining of Tungsten

We would like to introduce a case of high-precision mass production processing of pure tungsten. The inner diameter of φ6 has a precision of ±3μ and roundness of 1μ, achieved solely through turning, without any grinding. The surface roughness of the side of the inner diameter is 0.4ra, and the surface roughness of the bottom surface is 0.6ra. Particularly for the bottom surface, where the machining speed at the center becomes zero, the surface roughness tends to be rougher, yet it still maintains a surface roughness of 0.6ra.
