10 MeV electron beams have penetration capabilities equivalent to gamma rays due to irradiation from both sides, with minimal dose variation depending on the irradiation distance, resulting in a good dose distribution. In research and development using 10 MeV electron beam irradiation, the aim is to achieve high speed and cost reduction (a 40% cost reduction compared to conventional thermal curing) through electron beam curing, and we conducted research on electron beam curing of carbon fiber composite materials. Polymer materials lose their flowability at high temperatures due to crosslinking, which enhances their heat resistance. A benefit is that crosslinking can be achieved at room temperature after molding the polymer materials. Additionally, solvent-free resins can be cured, allowing for processing at room temperature in a short time. In graft polymerization, various shapes of polymers can be grafted, and it is possible to choose the type and shape of the main polymer or monomer without limitations, enabling mass production.
