In 2016, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology announced in the Basic and Cross-Sectional Research Strategy Working Group that it would "support and develop technology for the establishment of an aging and longevity research environment that conforms to international standards" in the future direction of aging research. In response to the demand for the item "creation, breeding, and supply of aging animals and aging model animals," Japan CREA began securing inventory for the supply of high-aged mice every six months starting in 2018. Subsequently, for general sales, we are also securing the same process to provide approximately 100 mice each of ~78-week-old B6J/B6N (♂♀). Therefore, as long as inventory is available, we can supply high-aged mice "immediately" following the same procedures as general sales animals.

Free membership registrationA test system has been developed by Physiogenex using a unique method (using cyclodextrin, as described later) that allows for the extremely rapid induction of NASH within just three weeks. This model uses 8-week-old male mice and measures parameters such as ALT, AST, liver weight as a percentage of body weight, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and fatty acids, all of which increase within just three weeks (at 11 weeks of age). It also shows an increase in the NAS score (indicators: steatosis, inflammation, fibrosis, ballooning, total score) and significant liver inflammation and fibrosis. Treatment with ezetimibe (5 mg/kg) for two weeks results in a decrease in plasma total cholesterol and liver fat, a reduction in gene expression related to inflammation and fibrosis, and a lower overall NAFLD score due to decreased liver inflammation. Similarly, treatment with liraglutide for two weeks also shows a reduction in body weight and liver weight, as well as a lower overall NAS score due to decreased liver inflammation. This induces severe liver damage, obesity, and insulin resistance. Currently, it has been clarified that unilateral nephrectomy and salt loading in drinking water (for 10 weeks) lead to the manifestation of diabetic nephropathy at an early age of 17 weeks.
