This is an introduction to the "spring for ceramic filters" developed in 1988. Ceramic filters are devices used to select and receive radio waves. The conventional ones had a very difficult assembly process for the internal springs, but by changing to springs made of shape memory alloy, assembly has become much easier. By deforming the parts into an easily assemblable shape and then heating them to return to their original shape, they can be assembled easily. Here is an introduction to the application examples of shape memory alloys. By utilizing shape memory alloys, it is possible to suddenly change hairstyles. First, shape memory alloys are embedded in the hair. When the model is walking and the switch is turned on with a remote control, electricity flows through the shape memory alloy, causing it to heat up. This heating changes the shape of the shape memory alloy, resulting in a change in hairstyle. I have heard that the show was a great success. Hair that was tied up can be released, and hair that was lying flat can stand up. This is an introduction to the "Smart Vortex Generator (SVG)" developed in 2005. It has a raised shape that serves as a vortex generator on the ground where lift is desired, but flattens out in the upper atmosphere to reduce drag, contributing to improved fuel efficiency. We would like to introduce a case study of the "Smart Eco Grill." By using shape memory alloy springs, this eco-friendly system operates semi-permanently without the need for motors or wiring, requiring only simple maintenance. In hybrid cars, if the engine compartment gets too cold in winter, the engine may start for heating, which can lead to decreased fuel efficiency. This product fully opens and closes according to the temperature inside the engine compartment, regulating the amount of outside air intake to prevent over-cooling, reduce unnecessary engine operation, and contribute to improved fuel efficiency.
