The "Logscanner" is a device that measures the outer diameter of logs. By installing it on the line, it is possible to sort raw timber by diameter class. It measures the shape using a line laser and area camera with a light cutting method, and passes the measurement data to a sequencer. As an example of a non-cylindrical component, we developed an automatic inspection device for micro-casting defects on the surface of automotive camshafts. The defect detection accuracy is over 0.1mm, and the inspection time depends on the number of sensors, but it can inspect the surfaces of 8 camshafts within 15 seconds. This development received technical support from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) Chugoku Center.
