Our company is developing technology to produce low-energy fuels and chemical raw materials via formic acid from CO2 and H2. Formic acid, being a liquid, can also be utilized for the transportation and storage of gases (H2, CO2). Our company uses CO2 (carbon dioxide) as a "material" to create new and novel molecules. Under the presence of a catalytic amount of metal complexes, the reaction proceeds smoothly at room temperature. In CO2 electrolysis, the target product is generated by supplying CO2 and H2O to the electrode and applying current. Therefore, it is necessary to form a three-phase interface consisting of the electrode, liquid phase, and gas phase. Our company has uniquely designed and prototyped an electrolysis cell that can supply liquid and gas separately to the electrode in order to properly control the three-phase interface. Additionally, by simulating and analyzing the interior of the cell, which cannot be directly measured during tests, it is possible to utilize this for more efficient redesign of the cell and establishment of electrolysis conditions. Our company is working towards establishing carbon recycling technology that utilizes green hydrogen, focusing on the development of electrochemical CO2 concentration devices. We recover and reuse CO2 from the air using an anion exchange membrane (AEM). The use of AEM for CO2 separation has advantages such as "good selective separation of CO2" and "operability at room temperature and atmospheric pressure."
