Reliable analysis of glycol in water by split injection.

In the analysis of low-concentration glycols in water samples using splitless injection, it is difficult to obtain stable results. This is mainly due to issues such as backflushing, abnormal peak shapes, and shifts in retention time. The split injection method presented here can avoid these problems and ensure good chromatography results. Durability tests confirmed that the Rtx-Wax column produces stable results even after 600 water injections.

High-Precision Analysis of Volatile Organic Compounds and Odor Compounds in Drinking Water by HS-SPME Arrow-GC-MS

Testing for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in drinking water is widely conducted to ensure its safety. Furthermore, odor substances such as methyl isoborneol (MIB) and geosmin are monitored as they cause unpleasant odors, making them subjects of analysis. This study aimed to develop a method that integrates the analysis techniques for VOCs and odor substances, which are typically conducted separately, to achieve high sample throughput. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) Arrow is a particularly useful technique as it allows for sample pretreatment and sample introduction to be performed with a single device. Additionally, SPME Arrow can be automated using a rail-type autosampler, significantly reducing the time required for sample pretreatment. In this study, we proposed a method that efficiently measures VOCs and odor substances in drinking water by combining a simplified sample pretreatment workflow with headspace-solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC-MS).

Technical Data: Analysis of Furan and Alkyl Furan in Food

Analysis of furan and alkyl furans in food using SPME Arrow GC-MS.

Using SPME Arrow and the PAL CTC autosampler for sample pretreatment, and the Rxi-624Sil MS column for analysis, we established the GC-MS optimization conditions for furan and alkyl furan in infant formula (hereafter referred to as powdered milk) and coffee samples. The results of this experiment revealed that sample pretreatment using SPME Arrow is suitable for a variety of sample types containing high and low concentrations of furan and alkyl furan. By using SPME Arrow alone for pretreatment, compared to headspace only or a combination of SPME and HS, an increase in productivity for food safety inspection laboratories is expected.
